![]() Counselling offers professional support in a safe and confidential environment to explore important and sensitive issues. You do not have to be distressed or have a problem to benefit from counselling. You can simply use it to have a better understanding of yourself and other people, or use it as an opportunity to assess your life in an objective way so that you can make appropriate decisions about your future. If you want to have counselling for change, then we can engage in a therapeutic relationship where I offer professional support to help you take control of your life in a constructive, effective and satisfying way. In critical times of life, such as when stress at work becomes overpowering, when you experience relationship difficulties, crises of confidence, or when anxiety or depression disrupt your ability to function in a satisfactory way, I can help you to gain insight into the way you live your life, and in the exploration, find understanding and offer new perspectives on ways of thinking and behaving. If you want help in constructing solutions rather than investigating the problem, then we can focus on the positive aspects of your life. I can help you to recognize your strengths and resources and to use them to bring about change. You will be helped to set goals and develop strategies to reach them. I am trained as an Integrative Counsellor, which means that I am skilled in helping people to achieve a broad range of objectives using different theoretical models. Psychodynamic counselling primarily focuses on an understanding of the origins and development of emotional difficulties, with an emphasis on interpretation. Humanistic counselling focuses on the here and now with the underpinning tenet that a person has the capacity for self-directed change and growth. Cognitive-behavioural therapy focuses on the management and control of behaviour where problems such as negative emotions arise as a result of distorted thinking. As an Integrative therapist, I use any or all of these approaches to help the client achieve his or her goal. The initial meeting involves taking details about you and your background, and the particular issues leading you to seek my services. A counselling session is 50 miinutes and usually takes place on a weekly basis. It can be short term (weeks) or longer term and open-ended. You will be able to look at your issues at your own pace and over the time span that you feel is right for you. Payment is due at the end of each session. The full fee is due if the session is missed, unless 24 hours notice is given. All information is treated in the strictest confidence. I am a member of the following professional bodies and abide by their codes of ethics: I am a member of the NHS Directory of Complemetary and Alternative Practitioners |
